Mary Epperson Day

My former piano teacher, Mary Epperson, turned 88 yesterday! Her age demystified. What?! I should be ashamed for publishing this information, but I am too astonished.

Mary Epperson Day in Homer, Alaska

This woman has for many decades been at the center of ‘art-world’ in my hippy-fisherman hometown of Homer, Alaska. She was the first great music teacher in my life, even though I think she should have gotten on me more about rhythm. Here she is looking impossibly adorable:

I can still hear her voice fretting over my decision to fish with my dad. “Oh but Conrad, what about your hands? Some shark may bite your fingers off, and what then?”

I’m glad the sharks left you alone! How cool that you have your very own website spelled just like your name. Nice! I look forward to reading the rest of your entries.

It’s great to have teachers who believe in us and make us better than we would be left to our own devices. Although I know you’d be a great musician/composer regardless of influence. Love the website!

Alex and Jennie are tied! Seriously, let’s do this. Email me with ideas about what you want for a ringtone. Or send me related pictures? Think of me like a CSI investigator: send me bits of hair, related toys, sheets, etc. and I will make the ring!
